How to Save Money When You Become PregnantWhen you first find out that you are expecting, you want to buy everything. Nothing is too good for our baby, no expense is too great. But stop and think - what if you could do a few things and save your family hundreds of dollars? Think what you could spend an extra couple of hundred dollars on? Start a college account for the new baby, buy more diapers, save for retirement, buy more diapers etc... I found out when I first became pregnant that there were a few tricks out there that not everyone knew about. First the obvious have a baby shower. All of your friends and family will want to buy the baby the very best. That saves you money, I know it sounds kinda cheap, but like me I am a stay at home mom and every penny counts. Ok, now down to the good stuff. You will need to do a couple of things when you first find out you are pregnant. Start out buy signing up on all of the diaper sites. This means register with them to receive free emails with educational pregnancy and parenting advice. In return you will get coupons in the mail. Sign up twice on each site, once in your name and once in your husbands name. You will get twice the coupons. Now who can turn that down when diapers cost $10.00 to $12.00 a package? Next sign up on all of the baby formula websites even if you are going to breastfeed. Because there may come a time when you can't breastfeed anymore and the baby still needs breast milk or formula. Formula is very expensive, so plan ahead. The formula companies will send free formula and checks for free formula in the mail. And throughout the baby's formula days they will continue to send more checks. After the baby is born, when you go to the baby's doctor ask for free samples of formula. Don't be afraid to ask. That is why they have it there. Ask each time you go if they have any samples - they can say is no. And they probably won't. Check around your baby's doctor's office for medicine coupons, my baby's doctor always has them by the checkout. Or just ask. Baby food is a cost cruncher too. Watch the sales and stock up on as much as you can. It may seem like a lot at the time, but the baby will eat it all and then some. Watch the Sunday paper each week for diaper, baby food and baby needs coupons. Ask other friends with small children if they have coupons about to expire they don't need or just any coupons that they won't be using and trade coupons with each other. This way you get the ones you needed, they get some they needed and everybody wins. I just can't stand to let a diaper coupon go to waste. These small steps in the beginning will save you a bunch down the road. These companies will continue to send you coupons until the child reaches the age to not need the product anymore. So stay on top of it and you too can save! |
