How To Stay Organized and Stay Sane

By Kelley Decker

Take a little time to organize and clean out your house. Just doing this task will make life run a little smoother. Have a place for everything! Use tote bins, under bed storage boxes and any means necessary to straighten up and clean up. Doing these small steps will save you time in the long run. You won't be looking for that stray shoe because it will be in the right place. Make a space for keys, purses and mail so when you come into the house you have a place to sit them down. You will know right where they are next time you need them. There is nothing like being late because of lost keys!

Housework - nobody likes it but somebody has to do it. Don't put everything off until the last minute. It will take twice as long if you have a whole weeks worth of chores to do in one day. My theory is that if you do just one or two chores a day then on Saturday when you just want to hang out you can. Try doing laundry everyday or at least every other day. It goes faster this way. Throw a load of laundry in while your prepare supper. Do the dusting and laundry together. Next day do vacuuming. The next day clean a bathroom. You get the picture, this always works for me. I have kids and when they take naps I do a couple of chores and I take a nap. I know this won't work for everyone but the theory does work. Try it.

The best organized person knows that you have to plan ahead. This means when you run out of ketchup put it on the list for the store so you always have what you need and won't have to go to the store as often. Plan meals at least for three or four days in advance so you don't have to run out for something you forgot. Because at five at o'clock in the afternoon is not the time to be at the store, wasting time, standing in line. Speaking of that the best time to shop, it is eight to ten in the morning or after ten at night. You won't have to wait in line then! Take your list when you shop the chances of you remembering everything is very slim.

Just making small adjustments to your everyday routine can save you hours of time each week. Try to eliminate things that waste time, like standing in a line somewhere. Do chores during the week so your weekend is yours. Remember that organization is the key. The more organized you are the less stress you will have each day, and in return you can have a happier more healthy life.
